From the 1838 Wallcoverings V&A Decorative Papers Wallpaper Collection
Originally created as a display piece for the 1908 Franco-British Exhibition in London, Macaw is designed for Jeffrey & Co by Walter Crane, who is considered the most influential children’s book illustrator of his generation who also produced many memorable wallpapers. Having developed a fine eye for stylised natural detail, this design features tall fruit trees adorned with big and bright Macaw birds against a luscious treescape. Seen here in the Blush colourway.
