The role of ornament and pattern in everyday lives

A Life in Pattern

If you ever feel like immersing yourself in design & pattern, this is the place to go –
The Fashion and Textile Museum
– only a few minutes walk from London Bridge Station. At the moment it’s exhibiting ‘A life in Pattern’ (until September 23rd 2019) showcasing work from the doyenne of design Orla Kiely.

Starting in the entrance hallway – you are enveloped in Abacus Flowers, a real design statement on a huge scale that’s graphic, fun and an engaging way to lead you in. The exhibition continues showing designs in blocks of colour that are easy on on the eye and really show the breadth of pattern design dotted with some of the iconic favourites like Stem in it’s many different guises.

If you think you know her designs, think again as there’s so much to see and if like me you love a handbag there’s a wall of brilliant bags to covet.

There are rooms dedicated to Orla Kiely fashion designs, dresses and coats on huge wire coat hangers making you feel like a ‘borrower’ in a fantastical Orla Kiely world!
